Extruded film made of PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) to keep an anti-friction and easy release surface, with a silicone adhesive.
For use in composite moulds as a release barrier in autoclave operations.
Tape 5490 is applied directly to moulds and is removed after the curing process as needed.

PTFE offers a low surface energy film that has no affinity for the epoxy prepreg chemistries and acts as a release film while offering a very high degree of conformability.

This is an important characteristic, because most moulds are not flat and the film must conform to the mould.

Tape 5490 is applied to the tool for its release properties, there where it is inconvenient to apply release coating.

The extruded backing gives the Teflon properties which allow it to be applied on flat surfaces and remain flat during the tapeˇ¦s useful life.
